Corby supporters plan Indonesian flower campaign
Friday, June 03, 2005 (UMST)

The Schapelle Corby Freedom network says it wants to reverse the damage caused by this week's scare at the Indonesian embassy in Canberra by sending flowers to the diplomats.

Tests have revealed that the white powder sent to the embassy was not harmful.

Claire Oelrichs from the Schapelle Corby Freedom network says the threat has been bad for Australian-Indonesian relations and for any hope of having the sentence of Corby reduced.

Ms Oelrichs says the group will send thoughts of friendship and condolence to the workers at the embassy and to Indonesians in general.

"We're sending flowers every day for five days and if they're not allowed to get into the embassy, which we hope they can, hopefully they can put beside the gate outside for people to see that we are very, very strongly pro-Indonesia and we very much want to keep their friendship, as Schapelle does," she said.

Ms Oelrichs says Australians need to show Indonesians their friendship, not anger.

"Anybody who is really serious about supporting Schapelle Corby would be appalled at any terrorism attacks in Indonesia or Indonesian people in Australia," she said.

"The very safety of Schapelle Corby depends on the Indonesians and we would like to start a trend that anybody who is serious about getting Schapelle Corby home should send flowers or a card of friendship to the Indonesian embassy."
